The Zambezi River Ferry took us to the dock of the Royal Livingstone Hotel. We walked to the front entrance where we were greeted by singers and dancers.

These pictures show the balcony of my room and more surprises awaiting me outside – my first sightings of a giraffe and an impala! I soon learned that animals roam the grounds freely and that they are used to sharing outdoor spaces with people.

I headed for the dining room around sunset and had my first zebra sighting. I ate on the upper level of the terrace at the corner table and had a nice view of the grounds and the Zambezi River.

I was on my way to breakfast the morning of Day 2 when I had an “up close and personal” zebra sighting on the walking path outside my room, and we later saw more giraffes as we headed out for Victoria Falls.
“We’d better let the tourists take our picture so we can have breakfast in peace…”
